November 16:: Interview with Shreeya Sinha

Shreeya Sinha uses visual storytelling to bridge human divides and shed light on media dark issues. She is currently a Producer at Asia Society.

She spent months reporting on violence against women in India as the sole international journalist for MediaStorm, an Emmy-award winning multimedia production studio. She wrote their first text story and single-handedly shot video, conducted interviews and field produced ‘Undesired’ which featured on the front page of MSNBC.com and at Visa Pour L’image, the international festival of photojournalism at Perpignan, France.

She received the highest honors at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism for her thesis, Ricocheting Bullets– a multimedia project incorporating photography, video and audio on psychological trauma in gangsters and their effect on communities.

In 2010, Shreeya won the national Foreign Press Association Award for her dedication to international journalism.

She has also investigated the transparency of oil revenue flows in developing countries and reported on socioeconomics in Israel and the West Bank for The Carter Center. In addition to her projects, she’s helped produce several shows at CNN International in New York and CNN-IBN and CNBC-TV18 in India. At the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, she implemented social media outreach programs to connect thousands of citizens to journalists in conflict zones.

Shreeya grew up in India, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. She received her master’s degree with honors from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor’s in Politics and International Relations from Brandeis University, where she pursued an activist agenda as the school’s first foreign student president.
