Interview with Rafiya and Moazzam Khan of SAMAR

Rafiya  Khan, President of the South Asian Marrow Association(SAMAR) founded this organization in 1992, to help save the lives of people diagnosed with leukemia and other fatal blood disorders. Khan is a graduate in Microbiology from India and is a Certified Histocompatibility Specialist. She currently serves as member of the managerial team at the NJ Sharing Network’s DNA technology department.

Khan held a fellowship position at the Columbia University in the clinical laboratory and has been a member of the managerial teams at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, including key positions at other health institutes in New York and New Jersey.

She has been involved in the research of the genetic markers in organ and bone marrow transplantation which is critical in the selection of donors for the patients in need of a bone marrow transplant. She participated in research of the crucial markers within DNA, which would allow for successful transplants.

Moazzam Ali Khan is the Director of Community outreach and media liaison, promoting marrow donor registration. He has held key position in advertising and marketing organizations in India. His past experience has been an asset to the growth of this organization.
